LE CLOS DE CAPELUNE: THE NUGGET FROM CHÂTEAU SAINT-MAUR CRU CLASSÉ

Acquired in 2012 by the Zannier family, Clos de Capelune is an exceptional parcel covering 15 hectares of vines perched at an altitude of 449 metres (the highest in the Côtes de Provence PDO).

Located in Collobrières, it faces the Chartreuse de la Verne? with a breathtaking view over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, in the very heart of a natural setting of outstanding beauty, where Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon and Rolle flourish.

It was in the heart of this exceptional terroir that the Clos de Capelune white and rosé were born in 2014; an inimitable style, superb elegance, remarkable finesse, these priceless vintages are among the most prestigious wines in Provence.

From now on, Clos de Capelune will give birth to a great red wine which will be unveiled to connoisseurs for the first time in the 2022 vintage.

A pure masterpiece, a Provence red bursting with elegance and complexity.

LE CLOS DE CAPELUNE RED 2022: A CONFIDENTIAL VINTAGE

This cuvée is the result of meticulous and passionate work by the estate's cellar team, who have succeeded in extracting the full aromatic quintessence of the unique plot of Capelune to create a great red wine from Provence. This red Clos de Capelune perfectly embodies the very essence of Château Saint-Maur Cru Classé's winemaking expertise.

Created from a precise blend of Syrah (50%) and Grenache (50%), this haute couture cuvée has been the object of every attention from harvest to vinification.

The grapes, harvested in mid-September by hand under the light of headlamps to preserve their freshness, were then meticulously sorted and cared for.

The grapes were then destemmed and gently crushed before being placed in a new 500-litre French oak barrel.

Vinification entirely in barrels has enabled maximum extraction of woody aromas and tannins, resulting in greater aromatic complexity from the earliest stages of vinification.

The wine will be aged for 18 months in new 225-litre barrels.

The result is a great Provence red.

The meeting

A garnet-red colour with brilliant violet highlights. On the palate, a remarkable roundness emerges, accompanied by delicate notes of ripe red fruit and a subtle hint of smoke. The tannins, although young, are of exceptional quality and will improve over the next three years. The remarkably long finish reveals hints of menthol.

Born to age, this Clos de Capelune red will keep for another 10 years.

The moments

This superb red lends itself to the most refined dishes, such as coq au vin, truffled pigeon, rack of venison, langoustine ravioli with Espelette chilli pepper, Saint-Marcellin cheese and spicy chocolate tart.
